Created from stones collected in the Los Angeles Crest Mountains, AZUSA YELLOW OXIDE evokes a sense of calm unique to this quiet and expansive region. Symbolizing warmth, courage, and hope, the painting reflects a pivotal moment in Júlia’s life, a time of uncertainty when her connection to nature was essential not only for healing but also as a daily practice.

Previously, proceeds from the sale of AZUSA YELLOW OXIDE were to be donated to the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team to help fund the purchase of a new truck. Thanks to generous community contributions, they were able to acquire the much-needed vehicle.

Now, they need our help again. Since the fires in Los Angeles broke out, the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team has been working tirelessly. Tragically, three members of the team—Heather, Richard, and Masha—lost their homes in the Eaton Fire.

A core element of Júlia’s work is her deep respect for the land that provides her pigments. This land carries its own memory and history, sustaining many communities. In honor of resilience and the spirit of moving forward, Júlia continues to give back to those protecting the land and the people who call it home.

Her natural pigments undergo a process she refers to as blooming, where the pigments settle into their final form, evoking the memory of the earth. She believes that the earth holds its own sense of memory, and this is reflected in the way her handmade paints shift and transform as they dry. This blooming process symbolizes the organic movement and subtle changes inherent in the natural materials she works with, capturing the essence of the earth's timeless presence.

Through IN BLOOM, Júlia Godoy unearths her own past experiences and memories with a collection of ethereal, raw paintings that evoke resilience in the face of life's inevitable changes with bold simplicity. With subtle tonal shifts, she suggests an internal journey — the rising warmth of rebirth emerging from the darker depths of fear.
